UWSP File Storage Options

File storage space is available to all UWSP students, faculty and staff for work related to instruction, educational or university business activities. The following file storage options are supported at UWSP.

OneDrive for Business Cloud Storage

OneDrive for Business Cloud Storage is within the Microsoft Office 365 suite of cloud applications. It is the recommended file storage location for your work at UWSP.

Your OneDrive cloud can be used to store most common file types created by UWSP-supported applications. For information on file type and size restrictions visit this Microsoft Support article.

Files stored in your OneDrive are accessible by default only to you. You can also share OneDrive files with others for collaborative work.

Microsoft Office 365, including OneDrive for Business, is available free for home use to all UWSP students, faculty and staff.

Microsoft Teams for Departments

Microsoft Teams is available as a new long-term file storage solution for Departments.  Information Technology offers a standardized format and accompanying support for Departments requesting a Department Team site.  To request a Department Team Site please submit an IT Workorder or contact the IT Service Desk.  For more information on the versatility of Teams for your Department see our Requesting a Department Team Site page.

Department Network Shares

Department shares are shared network storage spaces created for work units, courses or project work. Access to manage and edit files in these spaces is designated by unit head or course instructors.  Department network shares are automatically backed up by Information Technology.  Access department network shares from off campus.

Submit an IT workorder to request a department network share.

SharePoint

SharePoint is a content management system with automated workflows. Files stored can be allowed access through a web browser or through Microsoft Office applications.

SharePoint is the recommended storage location when linking documents to webpages. It is also used by groups of people who collaborate on the same documents. For example, the more formal documents produced by a committee or larger group can be stored in SharePoint and made available via the web to a larger audience.

Files kept in SharePoint are automatically backed up by Information Technology.

Kaltura

Kaltura is a media management system provided by UW System for use by the UW teaching and learning community.

Kaltura can be used to store video, image and audio files created by UWSP instructors and students for use in their courses (Note: Copyrighted material should be kept in E-Reserves).

Media files in Kaltura have a two-year retention policy and are backed up as part of the service.
