The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is pointing the way to a sustainable future through campus, community and academic initiatives.
Campus
The Office of Sustainability discovers ways to reach out to the campus and community through a strategic planning process to ensure our sustainable future.
Community
The Partnership for Thriving Communities provides framework through which the university can become more responsive to local needs, and help solve regional problems by embracing the sustainability principles of planet, people and profit.
Academics
UW-Stevens Point's general education degree requirements promote cultural and environmental awareness and responsibility throughout academics.
The Pointer Definition of Sustainability
UW-Stevens Point is committed to sustainability and its
practice in our daily operations. Sustainability is the human enterprise of
living to meet today’s needs without compromising the needs of future
generations, and to be ecologically sound, socially just, culturally affirming,
politically doable and economically viable. We demonstrate our commitment to
sustainability through such measures as resource recovery (recycling),
composting food waste, energy reduction and continually exploring ideas to
promote and support sustainability initiatives.
Message from the Chancellor
Sustainability
has been a critical component of our campus culture for decades, and we are
proud to be a role model and leader for other institutions. Our mission
statement notes clearly our dedication to sustainability:
Through
the discovery and dissemination of knowledge, the University of
Wisconsin-Stevens Point stimulates intellectual growth, provides a liberal
education, and prepares students for a diverse and sustainable world.
