Helping you make a home wherever you reside!

Residency Requirement
First- and second-year students are required to live in residence halls. This is a UW Board of Regents policy that covers all four-year UW schools (dependent upon space availability). UW-Stevens Point does have sufficient accommodations and enforces the policy.  More information regarding the policy can be found on the Residential Living webpage about the residency requirement.

Preparing to Live Off Campus
Choosing to move off campus comes with several opportunities and things to consider. Picking the right place to live, knowing what to look for in your lease, understanding your responsibilities are as a tenant, and making the most of the experience are critical to your success as an off campus student.

Landlord Concerns
Your landlord provides you with housing and has certain obligations to fullfill in order to ensure you have safe housing.  When you sign a lease you enter into a contract and sometimes it can be difficult to navigate that relationship. Student Legal Services, the Tenant Resource Center, and the City of Stevens Point neighborhood improvement division can help!

The Stevens Point Alderpersons and City Council represent you as a Stevens Point community member.  Get engaged with your local government and reach out if there are concerns.

Safe Point
The Safe University Community Project, also known as Safe Point, is a collaborative effort between the City of Stevens Point and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with the goal of reducing dangerous alcohol use and other related problems in the Stevens Point community.

Whether you're a "party thrower" or a "party goer," we have tips on reducing the risks of alcohol-related problems (personal and legal) as well as tips on how to keep your event from ending on a low note.

Being a Good Neighbor
Living in the Stevens Point community is an opportunity for you to engage with those around you and build positive relationships with your neighbors.  All UWSP students are expected to be aware of local ordinances and to be respectful of those living around them.  This includes managing noise, trash, snow removal, and being a good neighbor.

Community Expectations
All UWSP students are accountable to university policies and procedures, state and federal laws regardless of where they live.  UWSP Chapter 17 governs off campus behavior.  Stevens Point Police Department (SPPD) and UWSP hold students accountable for off campus behavior when it is of significant impact to the community or to individual safety.  UWSP works in partnership with SPPD to address any concerns raised.

Safety, Emergencies, and Resources
Health and wellness are critical to your success as a UWSP student.  All UWSP resources are available to off campus students including the Counseling Center, Student Health, Tutoring and Learning Center, and many more.

If there is an emergency contact 911.  Should an non-emergency arise we encourage students to contact the Stevens Point Police Department at 715-346-1500 .  If you have a question or need support please contact the Office of the Dean of Students at 715-346-2611 or dos@uwsp.edu.
