Outstanding Work Performance Awards

Janette Baumann, Wausau Campus Administration

Described as a "go-to person," "problem solver" and "people pleaser," Janette Baumann has taken on a lot of new duties, before and after the pandemic. She joined the Wausau campus’s Emergency Operations team and assists with COVID-19 testing. She led planning for the campus's first career expo in February 2020, which brought in high school students and staff as well as employers and universities.

Baumann also took on a wider range of high-priority responsibilities such as room reservations, event support and student org/club fund assistance, said Ann Herda-Rapp, campus administrator. "She does them all capably, with no loss of service. She’s our steady-eddy. She just gets things done. I don’t know how we’d survive without her."

Corinna Neeb, Police and Security Services

"Corinna Neeb was vital to UW-Stevens Point's COVID-19 response," said Jeff Brogan, Parking Services. Her dedication, communications, off-campus contacts and critical thinking skills helped the university's three campuses use messaging, testing, an emergency operations center (EOC) and partnerships with local and state response agencies to meet the challenges brought by the pandemic.

Neeb continues to manage the EOC, which has been active since March 2020. She also worked with the National Weather Service to designate UWSP as a Storm Ready University and communicates with campus leaders about threatening weather that may affect regular operations or safety. She also ensures that the Pointer Alert system is operational and trains employees on emergency procedures.

Lisa Nelson, Human Resources

Changes in the workforce last year, some due to pandemic furloughs and layoffs, led to additional workload for Human Resources employees. Lisa Nelson helped respond to an increased workload due to unemployment claims, COVID leave requests and furlough processes, as well as a new pay plan process.

She also was instrumental in migrating some payroll functions to UW-Shared Services and updating HR data after several college and department realignments."Lisa has taken it all in stride," said Eric Roesler, chief Human Resources officer. "She is willing to roll up her sleeves and get the work done."

Heather Springer, University College

Heather Springer's dedication led University College through a pandemic, budget challenges and planning for the potential replacement of Albertson Hall. She served on the Emergency Operations Committee's Logistics Team and led efforts to implement COVID-19 safety measures at Albertson Hall. She worked with Univeristy College unit directors to creatively save money and took on extra duties when staff members were put on furlough. Her knowledge of the building was key in the planning process for the renovation/replacement of Albertson.

Albertson Hall was the last UW System library to close and the first to reopen due to Springer's efforts, said Gretel Stock, dean of the college. "Heather's positive 'can-do' attitude kept the rest of us on track when things seemed overwelming. She was the glue that held the Univeristy College together."
