UW-Stevens Point Housing Policies and Procedures during COVID-19

All residence hall students will be expected to abide by residence hall community standards which have been designed to support a healthy living environment during the COVID-19 pandemic. They include:

Masks (face coverings) – Face coverings that cover the mouth and nose are encouraged in all public spaces (hallways, kitchens, lounges, computer labs, etc.) 

Physical Hygiene – Students will be expected to maintain a basic level of cleanliness in their resident room. Proper and frequent handwashing is expected. Sanitizing stations will be placed at various entry and exit locations and students are expected to use the sanitizer when they enter and exit a building. 

Cleaning and Disinfecting – Students are expected to clean and disinfect their rooms on a regular basis. Cleaning kits are available for checkout from the front desk during open desk hours. Bathrooms will be closed once per day for deep cleaning and disinfecting. Disinfecting will be done on all public areas such as handrails, elevator buttons, common areas, etc. twice per day. Students are encouraged to bring additional cleaning supplies to keep their personal spaces clean and may want to consider bringing their own disinfecting wipes to clean fixtures prior to and after use.

Students who fail to cooperate with the community standards identified by Residential Living may be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination of their residence hall contract and/or suspension from the university. Every effort will be made to gain voluntary cooperation from a student before engaging in the formal disciplinary process. 


Antigen Testing
Antigen testing will be available for all students. If a student is living on campus and has not submitted proof of vaccination, they must get tested bi-weekly.

  • Students should schedule their tests at
  • Students will need to bring their UWSP student ID as verification, on the day of testing 
  • After students are tested, they will be asked to wait for results (results will be shared privately)
    • Students should allow about 30 minutes for each test 
  • Students who have tested positive for Covid-19 should submit their test results to 
  • If you are symptomatic, please call Student Health Service at 715-346-4646 to be tested
    • DO NOT go to the antigen testing site 

Please be sure to complete the online COVID-19 Symptom Screening every day 

Capacity Limits
Modified capacity limits must be followed in all individual rooms/suites spaces. The maximum capacity of a traditional residence hall room occupancy is four (4), and Suites@201 has a maximum capacity of eight (8) people per suite. Any additional people beyond the assigned occupants in a residence hall room/suite must be agreed upon by all roommates/suitemates prior to entry. Guests must abide by the face-covering policy. 

Daily Symptom Screening
Students are expected to complete the online system screening daily, located on the COVID banner of the UWSP homepage. Students should contact Student Health Service and alert residence hall staff via email or phone call if they are displaying any COVID-19 symptoms.

Drinking Fountains
Fountains will be closed for community use while bottle-filling stations remain open. 

Elevators will be available for use. Only one occupant will be allowed in an elevator at a time. Exceptions will be made for members of a family during move-in and if occupants are assigned, roommates. 

Face Coverings
Face coverings that cover the mouth and nose are required in all public spaces. Face coverings are required when a student leave their individual residence hall room/suite. Any guests to a student room/suite should wear a face covering. 

Front Desk Hours
Front desk hours will occur daily from weekdays, 8 a.m.– 8 p.m., and weekends, 10 a.m. - 8 p.m., during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Quantine/Isolation Spaces
If you are named a close contact, waiting for COVID-19 test results, or have tested positive, you will be instructed to isolate. You will be provided with options regarding isolation. UW-Stevens Point has identified isolation space(s) on campus that may be used in this situation. The placement of an individual will be determined based on the specifics of their situation.

Community/floor kitchen use will be available. Any use of the kitchen appliances and surfaces will require students to wipe down the unit before and after use with the provided cleaning equipment, in addition to the daily cleaning. 

Lockouts will continue to be done at the front desk during regularly scheduled desk hours. Students will need to find a Resident Assistant (via duty phone or by knocking) outside of desk hours. 

Lounge Rooms and Common Areas
Residents may utilize shared spaces and are encouraged to practice physical distancing and must adhere to the mask mandate. Non-resident programs and meetings are not available at this time. Students are responsible for cleaning these spaces after use.

Music Room and Game Kitchens

Music room and game kitchens no longer require a key to be checked out from the front desk. Residents may utilize these spaces by accessing them with their personal Saflok. Students are responsible for cleaning these spaces after use. 

Physical Hygiene

Students placed in quarantine/isolation must follow all University and Residential Living policies. 

Courtesy Cab Rides
If a student requests a ride from their original space to their isolation/quarantine space, that can be arranged via University Police with Courtesy Cabs. 

  • Hall Directors will advise students to call University Police dispatch to arrange the cab ride.
  • Students should tell dispatch that they were instructed by a Hall Director to call because they need to move to isolation/quarantine. Dispatch will want to know the student's current on-campus location, the location they will need to go to for isolation/quarantine when the student will be ready to go, and a student contact number.  

Check-in Phone Calls
All residential living students, whether they chose to go home, or are isolating on-campus, will be contacted. 

If a student does not answer their phone, UWSP University Police will be contacted to conduct a welfare check. 

Designated Quarantine Areas
Once placed in a designated quarantine area, students are expected to remain in that area until they have received their COVID-19 test results back from Student Health Service and received further instruction for checking out of that space from Residential Living. 

Fire Alarms
Students should exit the building promptly while wearing their face covering. Once outside, students should maintain a physical distance of 6 ft. 

Food Delivery
Off-campus food vendors are not allowed to deliver to the isolation spaces. Students in quarantine can order food to be dropped off for a contactless pickup outside the main entrance. 

Students in quarantine/isolation are not allowed guests. 

If a student does not have access to a personal phone, they may utilize the red emergency landline. Weekday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. call the Smith duty phone, posted throughout the hall. If outside of these hours, call University Police. 

Mail and Packages in Quarantine/Isolation Spaces
Students who receive mail and packages at their assigned fall room location while in quarantine/isolation will have the option to have it delivered. Only essential items shall be delivered when students are in these temporary spaces. 

Tornado Warnings
Students should head to designated shelter areas while wearing face coverings. Students should maintain a physical distance of 6 ft., if able. 


If a student has tested positive for COVID-19, the student will move into an isolation space.

If a student is awaiting test results, the student awaiting test results must move into a quarantine space. If the student receives a positive COVID-19 test while in quarantine they must move into isolation. Students will receive test results within 48 hours. 

If a student has been named as a "close contact", the student must move into a quarantine space for a 14-day quarantine. The student should not congregate with others. The student will have access to the music room and computer room (limit 1). 

If a student is awaiting test results and has been named as a "close contact", the student must move into quarantine while awaiting results. If their test results come back 'negative', the student must continue to quarantine for the remainder of the 14-day period. 


Checking in
When students arrive at the quarantine/isolation space, DO NOT CHECK IN AT THE FRONT DESK. 

There is a metal key box near the main entrance. The room key and Saflok are located in this key box and will give the student access to the building. The key code will be given to students once they are contacted about their quarantine/isolation space. Students will need to keep this key packet to return during their checkout. 

Checking Out of Isolation
When the student is cleared by Student Health Service to return to their fall room assignment, the student must pack up their belongings and return their key and Saflok to the 'Express Checkout Dropbox'. 

Going Off-Campus to Isolate
Students in isolation must stay in their isolation space until they are cleared by Student Health Service to resume normal activities. If students wish to vacate their isolation space to continue their isolation period at an off-campus location, the student must notify hall staff before leaving. 

There is a laundry room provided for those in Q/I to do laundry. However, if you test positive, you do not have access to laundry. 

The student will need to call the isolation/quarantine duty phone listed. 

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be delivered to your quarantine/isolation space daily. Students will be allowed dietary restrictions and meal-time periods by UWSP Dining. A one-time grocery order will also be allowed for students to make with UWSP Dining while they are in quarantine/isolation. 

It is recommended you pack enough items in the event you must isolate/quarantine for 14 days, this includes bedding. A thermometer is provided and is property of UW-Stevens Point and must remain in the isolation/quarantine areas upon departure. 

Phone Check-ins
Students in quarantine/isolation for a prolonged period of time will receive occasional check-in phone calls to check their status and assist with any needs.

If a student needs medical assistance they should contact Student Health Service or 9-1-1 directly.

If the student has trash that needs to be taken out, the student should place the trash bag outside of their isolation space. Trash will be collected daily.

While in Quarantine/Isolation
Students should not prop doors. When exiting their space, they should be limited to doing laundry. If the student sees another individual, they need to make sure they abide by physical distancing guidelines. 


Spring Break

Staying here for Spring Break?

  • Log into the UWSP Housing Portal at
    • Select the Interim/Break Housing Process and click on your current room to fill out the break registration form 
  • Remember! 
    • All front desks will be CLOSED starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 19, and will re-open at 12 p.m. on Sunday, March 28. 
    • Packages will be delivered to the Suites@201 front desk during spring break. 

Are you leaving for Spring Break?

  • Please make sure to do the following:
    • Remove trash and take to dumpster
    • Close and lock windows
    • Make sure heat is on
    • Be Green! Unplug unused electrical items (except refrigerators)
    • Lock your door when you leave

Required Antigen Testing for Spring Break

  • Students who travel or spend time with people outside their households are encouraged to be tested once the week before and twice a week after spring break. No testing will be offered at the Berg Gym, during the week of spring break, March 22-26. 
  • Anyone who travels internationally MUST quarantine for 14 days before returning to any UW-Stevens Point campus. 

Additional information regarding Residential Living - during spring break

  • Our main office, located at 601 Divison St., will operate Monday-Thursday during normal business hours. 
  • Friday, March 26 the office will be CLOSED due to a mandatory university-wide furlough day. 

  • May 14 | Last day of classes for the spring semester
  • May 17-21 | Final exam week
  • May 22 | Commencement

Spring Semester Antigen Testing 
Antigen testing will be REQUIRED weekly of ALL on-campus students beginning Monday, January 25. If you have checked in to your residence hall, you are required to get tested weekly - there are no exceptions for not being on campus during that week.

Meal Plan Change Process 
Students who wish to change their meal plan for the spring semester can do so now through January 29, 2021, in the UWSP Housing Portal
