Mandatory Employment Training

All employees of the University of Wisconsin System are required to take Mandatory Employment Training (MET) courses. These courses support all faculty and staff to contribute to a safe and welcoming campus, keep data confidential and protected, and understand how to respond to reports of concerns.

Current MET Courses

For more information about these trainings, please visit UW System Administrative Policy 1293: Mandatory Employee Training.

Finding Time to Complete the Training Course(s)

See the Current MET Courses section for approximate course completion time.

Courses can be taken during or outside of UWSP business hours.

If you are a University Staff hourly (non-exempt) employee, if you would like to take the training outside of your normal working hours, first speak with your supervisor as shift differential may apply and your department may prefer that you take the training during your normal business hours. If approved to do the training course(s) outside of your normal business hours, ensure you put the time to complete the training(s) on your timesheet (listed timeframes above).
If you are a student employee, you may take the training courses anytime. Ensure you put the time to complete the training on your timesheet (listed timeframes above).

We Take Safety and Security on Campus Seriously!

Reminders to complete the training come from UW System after the initial notice. See UW System Administrative Policy 1293: Mandatory Employee Training for more information.

To support compliance with mandatory employment training, ensure you are using a UWSP email in accordance with UWSP account requirements (all faculty and staff must use a UWSP account for work purposes; student staff may be required to use a staff account for work).

Faculty/Staff:

If you do not complete a mandatory employment training course by the due date, you will receive a notice from UWSP indicating you are overdue. Your supervisor will be included on the communication(s).

Further escalation steps include communication to you and progressively involving your supervisor, Dean/Director, Vice Chancellor, and/or the Chancellor.

Additional escalation steps include possible impact to pay plan eligibility (or other pay increase eligibility) and/or possible discipline, including termination.

Student Staff:

If you do not complete mandatory employment training within 30 days of notification:

If you do not have a student staff account, you will receive a communication from UWSP indicating you are overdue until you complete the training. Your supervisor will be included on the communication(s).

If you have a student staff account, see the Faculty/Staff section above for the intial step.

Further escalation steps include communication to you, your supervisor, your Dean/Director, and your Vice Chancellor. Failure to complete the training courses includes possible discipline, including termination.

In addition to other consequences, ongoing failure to complete may result in progressive discipline. These escalation processes align with UW System Administrative Policy 1293: Mandatory Employee Training.
