Family and Consumer Sciences: Courses and Advising


Option: Child Life and Family Studies

Child Life and Family Studies students are nationally certified to work with families in a variety of settings, agencies and programs. Graduates take positions working in childcare, youth centers, adoption agencies, family crisis and elder care programs.
 
As part of their course of study, many students opt to participate in cultural-immersion, service-learning courses in locations such as Romania, China, Mexico and Native American Reservations in the U.S. These popular trips are led by department faculty members.

Option: Teacher Education

Teacher educators are DPI certified to teach in middle, junior and senior high school. Graduates may also hold positions in technical institutions and community colleges.

All family & consumer sciences students must achieve a 2.75 cumulative GPA in all coursework, including all transfer credits.
