Family and Consumer Sciences - Teacher Education



Become certified to teach family and consumer sciences in elementary and secondary schools and technical institutions or community colleges through the family and consumer sciences-teacher education program at UW-Stevens Point.

As part of your training you have the opportunity to put your skills to use working side-by-side with professionals such as student teaching in an FCS classroom.

UW-Stevens Point is a member of the AAFCS Assembly of Higher Education (AHE). New baccalaureate graduates of AHE institutions were eligible for a special complimentary, professional membership from the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS).

To graduate with a major in family and consumer sciences-teacher education option you must meet the requirements for eligibility to student teach before you register for student teaching. You must achieve a 2.75 overall GPA and earn a grade of “pass” in all areas of student teaching in order to graduate.

Before you can apply for teacher certification you must complete FCS 190 and have a 2.75 grade point average in the major including transfer courses.
