This is a sample of the Mammalogy Collection.
Pictured on the left is one of the work areas and various head
mounts, horns, and antlers donated to the University by people in and
around the community. Pictured below that is a cabinet that holds some
representatives from the Order Chiroptera (bats) and the Family
Dasypodidae (armadillos).
Specimens such as these are very important in that they allow for
up-close and critical study; including but not limited to anything from
DNA analysis to documenting morphology and range.
This study, in turn, can help we humans further understand the
natural history of these animals so we might be better equipped at
appreciating what is necessary for these animals' survival. This
knowledge, then, can help promote the preservation of the natural
systems and processes in which we and other animals depend.
