​​What can I expect during my appointment?

  • ​Discuss any aspect of writing, reading, or study​ing that concerns you.

  • Collaborate with a peer in a relaxed environment to help support classroom instruction.

  • Focus on higher-order concerns such as the structure, organization, and clarity rather than proofreading, correcting grammar, or editing.

  • Offer examples and resources that help you find errors, correct them, and avoid making them in future writing assingme​nts

  • Point out potentially AI-generated writing and discuss the importance of academic integrity.

Special note that our tutoring staff is composed of all undergraduate students, so while we try, we may not have the capacity to support graduate level writing.

What can I expect from an OWL? (Online Writing Lab)

​​Carefully review our Online Writing Lab (OWL) submission information below before completing the form. Writing Center Tutors will, in addition to the above bullets:

  • Use the "review" and "comment" tools in Microsoft Word to offer thoughtful feedback and suggestions.

  • Return feedback within two business days.

For additional support on your writing beyond an OWL:

  • Schedule an appointment in Navigate or contact the TLC at tlctutor@uwsp.edu or 715-346-3568

  • Resubmit your writing with specific comments that indicate what further asasistance you require.

  • Resubmissions without specific comments will be returned without review.

What are the English 57 Requirements?

  1. ​Register for English 157, 257, or 357 via AccesSPoint

  2. Attend orientation during the first or second week of classes for initial information, documentation, and schedule.

  3. Write a contracted number of words:

    • 1,500 words for English 157

    • 2,400 words for English 257

    • ​3,000 words for English 357

  4. Meet with a Writing Center Tutor 12 times.

  5. At the end of the semester, publish and celebrate your writing with Wordplay, our compilation of student writing.​​​
