Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972
"No person in the United States shall on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance."
The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point prohibits discrimination on the basis of age, race, color, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, national origin, ancestry, marital status, pregnancy, parental status, sexual orientation, disability, political affiliation, arrest or conviction record, membership in the National Guard, state defense force or any other reserve component of the military forces of the United States or this state, or other protected class status. Discrimination includes any form of unequal treatment such as denial of opportunities, harassment, and violence.

What does that mean?
Title IX prohibits discrimination based on the sex/gender of students and employees of educational institutions that receive federal financial assistance. Each college or university receiving federal financial assistance must designate at least one professional employee as its Title IX Coordinator. The Title IX Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the overall implementation of Title IX.

What does Title IX apply to?
Title IX applies to every aspect of education from a student’s application until their graduation, including course offerings, counseling, financial assistance, student health, student housing, marital and parental status of students, physical education and athletics, student conduct involving sexual harassment or sexual violence, educational programs and activities, and student employment.
Title IX applies to issues involving both students and employees of UW-Stevens Point.
What does sex/gender discrimination mean?
Title IX prohibits sexual misconduct, gender discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliation, and other behaviors when gender- or sex-based.
