1. Green Leader Checklist

  2. 1) Fill out the GROW Interest Form (If you have not already done so). 

  3. 2) Schedule a time/date for the 30 min training with the GROW coordinator (rkrouse@uwsp.edu). 

  1. - Get as much of the office involved as possible! 

  1. 3) Develop a timeline for your office to complete the checklist (which can be handled at the training). 

  1. - Hold the office accountable! ​

  1. 4) Review the checklist in depth and develop a plan for how to complete the items listed.  

  1. 5) Set up expectations for your office members and give them personal tips. 

  1. - Ex: employees are all aware of utilizing natural lights. 

  1. 6) Utilize the checklist tips below (this will not account for all parts of the checklist, but it will give you a start on how to lead your office). 

  1. 7) Continuously check in with office staff to make sure they’re staying on track with checklist items. 

  1. - Set a system for how you will communicate with them.

  1. 8) Once you feel your office has completed as much of the checklist as possible (given your previously created timeline), fill out the checklist and alert the GROW coordinator that you have done so. 
  2. 9) Get recognized and celebrate your accomplishments! 


  3. Checklist Tips for Green Leader (will not help with all checklist items)

    Energy:

    • - Create signs for employees near light switches that remind them to turn off the lights. 

    • - Communicate with office staff the expectations for turning off their personal appliances at the end of the workday. 

    • - Designate someone to unplug shared appliances at the end of the workday.  

    • - Use our purchasing guide to buy smart or switch-activated power strips. 

    • - Email the link forEcosiato all employees and instruct them to install it on their personal device. 


    Waste Reduction:

    • - Print out our recycling/compost guides on the website “Resources” page (or make your own!) and place them near recycling bins. 

    • - Purchase reusable dishware for the office kitchen. 

    • - Communicate with staff the waste reduction expectations and direct them to the on-campus resources (The Closet, The Backpack, The Cupboard, Surplus) 


    Purchasing: 

    • - Utilize our purchasing guide to buy more eco-friendly products for your office. 

    • -Fair trade/local food guide will help buy local products 


    Transportation:

    • - Email UW System Sustainable Tips and Sustainable Travel Pledge to employees (tell them to let you know when they’ve completed these things). 

    • - Set up office carpools and encourage employees to bike to work when/if able.  

    • - Set up office potlucks to avoid travelling off campus for lunch.  


    Special Events:

    • - Utilize our Fair-Trade Guide to buy local food for office events (on purchasing guide). 

    • - Communicate goals of Meatless Monday with the staff and track who participates. 


    Community Engagement:

    • - Encourage staff to complete LGBTQ+ SafeZone Training (link to apply here). 

    • - Designate a staff member to represent the office in the Earth Week Planning Committee.  

    • - Keep track of staff engagement in the community. 

    • - Create a log of volunteer hours.
