The Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Sustainability program at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is 100% online* and designed for working professionals from interdisciplinary fields in sustainability. The program will prepare graduates to be educators and leaders who hold a passion for transforming systems of teaching and learning.

The curriculum is intended to provide students the opportunity to actively engage in coursework, research and professional practice in the field of sustainability. For the purpose of the degree, sustainability is broadly defined using the six core principles. Students can explore sustainability in one or more of these principles to personalize learning in the program.

2017 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School, UW-Stevens Point is a leader in sustainability issues involving using natural resources prudently, starting and maintaining businesses and economies and facilitating citizen engagement.

This degree is a rigorous, timely and meaningful doctoral program that cultivates student achievement in your current or future career path towards sustainable change in education, environmental and business community endeavors. It is applicable to administration and leadership positions in K-12 schools, communities, business and higher education.
Program features:
The Ed.D. in Educational Sustainability is a 100% online, cohort-based program with an annual four-day required residency on June 9-12 that serves as an orientation to the program (first year) and capstone colloquium/symposium experience (all subsequent years in the program). Doctoral students are required to attend the residency each year they are active in the program as part of their degree competency requirements. Our accreditation is approved with these residencies therefore, it is mandatory per accreditation guidelines that students meet these requirements.

Requirements (specific for CU-Portland transfer students)
Admissions is a two step applicaiton process
University System Application (Application fee will be waived for all CU-Portland applications,
please select the "skip payment" option to take advantage of the fee waiver offer)
To apply to the Ed.D. in Educational Sustainability at UW-Stevens Point, applicants need to complete the graduate application through the UW System website. Once your completed application (required to include all official post-secondary transcripts) is received by the UW-Stevens Point Admissions Office, you will receive notice from the Admissions Office stating your application has been received and will be forwarded to the School of Education.
Educational Sustainability Program Application
- Letter of Intent: Submit a 1,200-1,500-word letter of intent addressing the following questions:
- Given the sustainability challenges we face in the world, choose one area you foresee yourself studying, researching or acting on in this degree program?
- What are your life and/or professional experiences related to your potential area of study and how do you envision the field of Educational Sustainability will advance or support your life and/or career goals?
- Describe your readiness and strengths you will bring to a cohort-based, interactive online learning environment.
- References
- Submit the name, phone, and email of 2 current faculty references.
- Submit the name, phone, and email of 1 committee reference if applicable.
- If recent CU-Portland admit (i.e. have not yet worked with CU-P faculty and have not yet established a committee) please submit 3 references who can speak to your capabilities as a doctoral student.
- Transfer equivalency credit check: This will be completed by Prof. Erin Redman and will verify transfer and equivalency credits. Please contact Prof. Redman to discuss this prior to submitting your applciation.
- Submit
copy of transcripts (you will also send offical transcripts to Office of Admissions). The copy will allow us to complete applicatio package for the admissions committee.
