Richard Ruppel & Jutta Brendel

Richard Ruppel has led or co-led 18 tours for UWSP Adventure Tours (and its earlier incarnations). From 1994-2005, he led cultural bicycle tours of Europe (Belgium and the Netherlands, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy), two tours of the Czech Republic, and three tours of Switzerland. Since 2005, he designed and led seven cultural hiking tours: Vienna to Venice 2010, Switzerland and Italy 2011, Switzerland and France in 2013, Salzburg, Bad Gastein, Cortina and Trieste in 2015, The Grand Tour: Munich to Florence in 2017, Alpine Trekking in Switzerland, Italy and France 2018, and most recently Sorrento and Amalfi Coast 2019. Richard is a retired Professor of German at UWSP, has spent years studying, working and researching in the German speaking countries, and also speaks some Swedish. Richard and Jutta co-led the Scandinavian Tour, 2022, (including Stockholm, Copenhagen, Oslo and Bergen) and in 2023 they co-led the Alpine Delights Tour (Füssen, Merano, Olang-Valdaora, and Kitzbühel). 

Jutta Brendel is a native of Germany, speaks fluent Italian and has been to Italy countless times. She has led four Italian tours, has planned tours of the Amalfi coast and of Sicily, planned and led a tour of the Etruscan Countryside including Rome, was co-leader of a Tuscan bicycle tour, and planned northern Italian destinations such as Stresa, Lake Garda, Verona, Venice and Trieste among others. Recently, Jutta and Richard co-led the Sorrento and Amalfi Coast 2019 tour venturing the world-r​enowned Path of the Gods, Mt. Vesuvius and Pompeii. Jutta is widely travelled in Europe

​Important Information


  • Referral Bonus and Discounts: Receive $50 off your tour for each traveler you refer. If you refer three people then you get $150 off your tour, etc. The referrals can be family, friends, co-workers, etc. UWSP students & alumni get a $50 discount. The referral bonus and all other discounts will be applied to your final payment.
  • Flights: Please do not book your flights until this tour has reached the minimum number of travelers to hold space. UWSP Adventure Tours Staff and/or tour leader will stay in touch with you to confirm this. Once confirmed, you are responsible for arranging and purchasing your own flights (flight itineraries will vary due to preferences and departure locations). Please wait to book your flights.

     
  • U.S. Airport Transfers: UWSP Adventure Tours does not coordinate airport transfers for your departure or arrival to/from this tour destination due to liability, costs, and inflexibility. Please arrange for your own transport to/from the airport in the U.S. according to your flight itinerary.

     
  • Cancellations and Refunds: Cancellations of tours must be made in writing up to 91 days prior to departure and will be refunded in full less your nonrefundable deposit. Cancellations made within 90 days of departure will not be refunded.

  • If We Cancel a Tour: UWSP Adventure Tours reserves the right to cancel this tour due to force majeure or any other reasons beyond our control. We also reserve the right to cancel this tour in cases of inadequate numbers of bookings or for safety concerns. If this happens, we will refund your tour in full. UWSP Adventure Tours is not responsible for additional expenses incurred by you in preparing for the tour (e.g., non-refundable plane tickets, visa fees, gear, travel insurance, extra accommodations, or medical expenses).

     
  • Refunds for Missed Days: We are unable to grant refunds for any missed portions of your tour because of missed or delayed flights. Additionally, no refund is guaranteed for any feature of the tour not used as a result of weather, earthquake, personal health, or social disturbance.

     
  • Insurance: UWSP does not provide travel insurance, medical insurance, or emergency evacuation and thus you are 100% responsible for these expenses. We strongly advise you purchase travel insurance (and possibly supplemental medical insurance) as soon as possible because some insurance providers only guarantee certain benefits within a short time after you made this tour deposit.   •  Traveler Orientation: A group orientation will be scheduled 1-2 months prior to your tour. The Program Manager and/or Leader(s) will be in touch down the road to schedule this with you.
