Details

STEAM is an approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics. This one-day conference geared to boys and girls in grades 6, 7 and 8. Students will engage in hands-on workshops and learn the many career paths available with an education in STEAM.  
  • Explore the UW-Stevens Point Treehaven Facility
  • Attend mulitple workshops held inside and outside! 
  • Receive a T-shirt, lunch and workshop supplies
  • 2025 STEAM T-shirt Desgin Contest 

Forms:

​Check-in is located in the Bear Track Lounge (below the Dining Room). Please following the handicap path to the entrance. This is also where everyone will meet back up with their schools at the end of the day. See Entrance/Exit Map

Registration Information

Registration Fee:

$40 Per Student
$20 per Chaperone​

Registration fee includes keynote ​presentation, three workshops, event materials, t-shirt and lunch.

Teaching aides: Some children require a teaching aide in order to attend the event.  Please contact us if a teaching aide is required. 

Chaperones: One chaperone may attend, free of charge, for every 10 students in attendance with their school. This free spot is only available under the condition that the chaperone agrees to attend all three assigned sessions and assist in classroom management. ​How To Register

Teacher

 

STEP 1

Teachers will provide students with the following forms:

  1. Workshop Selection/Release Form 
  2. Workshop Titles and Descriptions

STEP 2

Teachers will then need to collect the following from students: 

  1. Workshop Selection/Release Form - Filled out by student (Signed by parent/guardian)
  2. $40 registration payment (if students, not the school, pays for their attendance) 

STEP 3

Teachers will then register students:
  1. Register online

    Please register students using the teacher's email for the primary contact. After the students are registered you may pay by credit card, or by check (select pay with purchase order). If you are sending in a check please address to UWSP-Continuing Education and mail to UWSP -Continuing Education, 2100 Main St., 032 Old Main, Stevens Point, WI 54481.  For detailed online registration directions please see the heading "Online Registration Tips" below. 

  2. Turn in Release Forms and 1 School Field Trip Agreement

    Scan and email completed Release Forms to uwspceweb@uwsp.edu or mail to UWSP -Continuing Education, 2100 Main St., 032 Old Main, Stevens Point, WI 54481

Homeschool

Parents registering individual students:

  1. Ask the student to complete the Workshop Selection Form

  2. Register the student's information online

    1. Use the parent email as the primary contact
    2.  Enter "homeschool" for the student's school

  3. All youth must have an adult on campus for custodial care.

  4. Complete payment.

    1. You will be prompted to enter your card information after checkout or you can mail a check to 2100 Main St., 032 Old Main, Stevens Point, WI 54481. Checks will need to be addressed to UWSP-Continuing Education.

  5. Turn in Photo Liability and Release Forms to UW-Stevens Point Continuing Education.

Registering as a group

If you are a chaperone in charge of registering others please be sure to register yourself, and then register your students. Please see the instructions for Teachers on how to register a group. 

Registering individually

If you are registering only yourself you may register online or by mail (paper registration). Please indicate the school you will be a chaperone for.

If you are required to pay for yourself (the school is not covering the cost), you will be prompted to enter your card information after checkout or you can mail a check to 2100 Main St., 032 Old Main, Stevens Point, WI 54481. Checks will need to be addressed to UWSP-Continuing Education.

Volunteer

Volunteer opportunities are avilable for both full-day and half-day positions. Each volunteer receives a free t-shirt and hours towards your student organization or resume. This a fun and easy way to gain experience!

Parent

Parents should not register their child individually if they are attending STEAM Point Days with their school!

Please only register your child if you have spoken to your school and they have approved their individual registration. ​

Parents registering individual students:

    1. Use the parent email as the primary contact (unless previously instructed to use the teacher's email).
    2. MUST INCLUDE SCHOOL or write homeschool. (more than one individual may register from the same school, we would like to group these students together).

  3. Register a parent if attending (register as a chaperone)

  4. Complete payment.

    1. If you are required to pay for yourself (the school is not covering the cost), you will be prompted to enter your card information after checkout or you can mail a check to 2100 Main St., 032 Old Main, Stevens Point, WI 54481. Checks will need to be addressed to UWSP-Continuing Education.

  5. Turn in Release Forms to UW-Stevens Point Continuing Education and Outreach Office. (unless previously instructed to turn them into your teacher).

​Keynote Speaker

Christopher Yahnke - Wildlife Professor

Christopher Yahnke grew up in Milwaukee and studied biology at UW-Milwaukee. He worked with the National Museum of Natural History in Paraguay as a Peace Corps Volunteer and returned to Paraguay to work on his doctoral research with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the San Diego Zoo. He is a Research Associate in the Division of Mammals at the Field Museum in Chicago, and is currently a Professor of Wildlife Ecology at UW-Stevens Point. His passion is taking students into the field, and he has taught field courses in northern Wisconsin, the desert southwest, Hawaii, and Costa Rica. ​​​​​


Scholarships


Scholarships are limited and available only to students upon written recommendation by a teacher, parent, or school administrator. Scholarship​ requests must include the name of the student in need of scholarship, a reason for the request, and the school's name. Email written recommendations to Becky Wirkus (rwirkus@uwsp.edu​), Event Coordinator with Continuing Education and Outreach, to request a scholarship.

Cancellation Policy​

Full refunds will be made upon written request to uwspceweb@uwsp.edu up until the registration deadline date. No refunds will be given if the cancellation is received after the registration deadline date has passed. Programs that involve pre-ordering of materials and travel will not qualify for any refund. Substitutions can be made at any time, but no shows will be responsible for the full workshop fee. 

We reserve the right to cancel due to low enrollment, severe weather, or instructor illness. A refund will be issued under any of these conditions. BE SURE to provide your email address and phone number during registration so that we may contact you if a class is cancelled for any reason.​
