Discover the beauty of Wisconsin's Baraboo Hills with fellow hikers on a guided fall trip along the Ice Age Trail! Enjoy the peaceful Merrimac Segment, an easy path meandering through gentle landscapes, and experience the stunning views from the Gibraltar Rock Segment, known for its panoramic vistas and invigorating climbs. Led by experienced trip leaders Anne Rogalski, Mara Prausa, and Tim Zeszutek, this hike offers a perfect blend of leisurely walking and more challenging trails. Whether you're crossing Lake Wisconsin on the Merrimac Ferry or conquering the summit of Gibraltar Rock, you're sure to make unforgettable memories with fellow outdoor enthusiasts. Join us for this incredible adventure—nature awaits!

*You can make your decision on how far you would like to hike on the day of the trip. Before lunch, everyone will be hiking the Merrimac Segment which is 3.6 miles long. After lunch, you can choose to hike the entire Gibraltar Rock Segment (includes one miles of walking on a road) which is 4.6 miles long or hike the 1.8-mile Rock only portion.

Trip Information

  • You may bring food and drink into the minivans. Since there is no bathroom on board, we will stop at the wayside down and back and other places as needed.

  • Your fee covers transportation, a picnic lunch from 2510 that we will eat at Memorial Park in Merrimac, and a personal driver/trail guide.

  • Please bring and wear appropriate hiking boots/shoes, gear, apparel, and water/snacks. We recommend wearing layers and bringing a change of footwear/socks (and possibly clothing) in the event you get wet. The sections we hike will be easy going at the beginning, then steep and challenging at the end (for those who would like an extra challenge).

Van Loading Location: ​Parking lot G in front of Center for Community Engagement (625 Stewart Avenue, Wausau) 
Van Loading Time: 7:00 a.m. (please be on time)
Van Departure from Wausau ​7:15 a.m.

Stevens Point Pick Up

Van Loading Location: Parking lot in front of Dunham's Sports, corner closest to McDonald's (HWY 10, Stevens Point)
Van Loading Time: 7:45 a.m. (please be on time)
Van Departure from Stevens Point​: ​8:00 a.m.​​​​

​Cancellation Policy​​​

Since we make financial commitments in advance, no refunds will be issued for cancellations. However, you may send a substitute in your place. Please email us at uwspceweb@uwsp.edu to inform us of the substitution.
