A Record of the Earth in Rock

Several thousand rock, mineral, and fossil specimens are contained within our geological collection. Many notable specimens are included in rock collections donated over many years by generous donors.

 

Wisconsin's Lakes: Gift of the Glaciers

Central Wisconsin is renowned for its post-glacial landscape features such as pot hole lakes, moraines and outwash plains. The UWSP campus sits on a portion of the outwash plain from the Green Bay Lobe of the Laurentide Ice Sheet. Other local features include polygonal cracks indicative of tundra environments, and ice-walled lake deposits.
