Field Courses and International Study

The UWSP Department of Biology has a strong heritage of field work. Many biology faculty have field-oriented research programs and many courses include field trips as part of their laboratory component.

In addition, regularly scheduled field ecology courses take students to the Pacific Coast and Great Basin Desert and to the Chihuahuan Desert of New Mexico and Texas. These intense camping, hiking and learning experiences provide a hands-on, living lab where students apply and gain a greater understanding of ecological principles.

Our faculty also regularly take students on specialized research expeditions. Recent faculty/student research destinations include:  Peru, Greenland, Costa Rica, New Zealand, Belize, Guatemala, France, and Great Britain.

Your advisor can provide more information about these opportunities.  Be sure to also visit the International Programs office for other options.
