• Admissions admits, and then orients new transfer students via a Canvas module, in-person orientation, or both experiences. 
  
• Transfer students are instructed to schedule an appointment with a professional academic and career adviser.  
  
• ACAC advisers provide advising from students in COLS majors, COFAC majors, and undecided students. Currently, incoming transfer students in COLS and COFAC who have 100-ish+ credits go straight to a department chair/coordinator.
  
• CPS advisers provide advising by their academic and career advisers, organized by their three schools. 
  
• CNR advisers provide advising in their CNR Student ​​Success Center for all incoming CNR transfer students except paper science and engineering, who go to the department. 
  
• Transfer students in COLS and COFAC are advised for one semester through ACAC. CNR and CPS advisors transfer students to faculty dependent on department practices. 
  

• Students will know why, where, and how to seek assistance for academic and career advising. 
  
• Students will understand their degree requirements, including what transferred in and what remains in both GEP and major requirements. 
  
• Students will assess their goals for their out-of-class experience at UWSP (social connections, student organizations, employment opportunities, research, etc). 
  

• Utilize the Transfer, Transition, and Reentry Advising Checklist​.  
• Use email reminders and announcements throughout the semester to reinforce and promote campus opportunities.  
• For students with unassigned credits or substitutions needed in the major, recommend they review their transcripts with departments to apply substitutions and support efficient student progress. 

How academic programs can help

• Host new student meetings or socials early in both the fall and spring term.  Provide an opportunity for transfer students to meet other transfer students. 
• Participate in professional development related to the experiences and unique needs of transfer students.  A self-directed course​ developed by CITL is available in Canvas.   ​​
  
• Faculty members individually welcome new transfer students via email and discuss student career aspirations. 
• Meet timely with students who professional advisors have recommend to meet for unassigned credits or substitutions. ​
