High school seniors in the Badger State aren't applying for financial aid as much as other years.
A new report from Wisconsin Policy Forum says between 2019 and 2021, the amount of students requesting federal aid dropped by more than 12%.
Nationally, the number of students who graduated high school and went on to college have also declined since the start of the pandemic.
A financial aid official in Stevens Point says they've managed to adapt, and haven't seen a significant decline on their end.
"Because we knew that trend was happening, we have done a lot more outreach than we've done in the past. We've increased our communications," University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships Associate Director Melissa Vogler said.
Friday was the first day to apply for federal financial aid; the deadline is June 30th.
