Music, comedy events at UW-Stevens Point

Enjoy live concerts and a comic performance at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in February through the student-run Centertainment Productions program.

All events will be held in the Encore Room at the Dreyfus University Center, 1015 Reserve St., beginning at 8 p.m. All shows are open to the public. Tickets are $5 and free for students with a UW-Stevens Point ID. February shows include:

  • Sick of Sarah with Define Tension, Friday, Feb. 17
    The women of the Minnesota quartet, Sick of Sarah, perform punk-infused pop “with a passion that is truly contagious,” says Susanna Hoffs of The Bangles (www.sickofsarah.com). Define Tension is an Appleton band with a style of rock with a bit of funk and jazz and influences such as Led Zeppelin, Muse, Red Hot Chili Peppers and System of a Down (www.myspace/definetension).

  • Comedian Chad Daniels, Thursday, Feb. 23
    A Minnesota native, Daniels brings an edgy, take-no-prisoners style of comedy. He has been on the Late Late Show, the Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, Comedy Central and has appeared at several comedy festivals (www.chaddaniels.com).

  • People Brother’s Band, Friday, Feb. 24
    A jazz and funk band from Madison, this group blends an eclectic mix of original grooves, conscientious lyrics, soulful vocals and instrumental work with diverse self-tailored covers, from funk to soul, rock to reggae, and folk to rhythm and blues (www.reverbnation.com/thepeoplebrothersband).
