An upcoming concert of the Women's Choir and Chamber Singers at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will include the premiere of a new, locally written piece as well as several songs of the season.
The performance will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, in Michelsen Hall of the Noel Fine Arts Center. The premiere piece is "Winter, You Told Me of Your Coming," written by Catherine Wilson, director of the choir and assistant professor and coordinator of music education, and Dan Holland, a Plover poet and naturalist. Mary-Ellen Mitchell will offer piano accompaniment.
The Women's Choir will perform "Folk Songs of the Four Seasons" by Vaughan-Williams, traditional French carols "Angels We Have Heard on High" and "Ding Dong Merrily on High," traditional songs "Cossack Cradle Song" and "Ergen Dada" and traditional spiritual "Children, Go Where I Send Thee." Wilson and music student Kristin Pfluger of Green Bay will conduct the choir.
The Chamber Singers will perform the German carol "In dulci jubilo," "Benedictus" by Haydn, "A Boy Was Born" by Benjamin Britten, the traditional French carol "Quelle est cette odeur agréable?," "Ein Hennlein Weiss" by Antonio Scandello and selections from "A Consort of Choral Christmas Carols" by PDQ Bach. The Chamber Singers are directed by Music Professor Susan Bender. Music student Aly Evans of Reedsburg will also conduct.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for senior citizens, $5 for UW-Stevens Point students, faculty and youth and free the day of the concert for students with a UW-Stevens Point I.D. if not sold out.
