An upcoming joint concert of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Concert Band and Wind Ensemble will feature a guest conductor who mentored the university's director of bands.
Held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, the concert will feature guest conductor Joseph Hermann, director of bands at Tennessee Technological University (TTU) in Cookeville, Tenn. Assistant Professor Michael Butler, who directs the Concert Band and Wind Ensemble at UW-Stevens Point, studied with Hermann at TTU.
"He made a tremendous impact on my musicianship and teaching career," said Butler. The May 3 concert will also feature an apprentice conductor who studies with Butler. Nick Verheyen, a senior music education major from Pleasant Prairie, will conduct a piece by the Wind Ensemble.
The Concert Band will perform pieces by Paul Basler, Jeremy Martin, Percy Grainger and Clifton Williams. The Wind Ensemble will perform works by Ryan George, John Barnes Chance and John Williams.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for senior citizens, $5 for UW-Stevens Point students, faculty and youth and free the day of the concert for students with a UW-Stevens Point I.D. if not sold out.
