Get into the holiday spirit through the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point at Wausau Music Department's winter concert series, held in December at the UW Center for Civic Engagement James F. Veninga Theater, 625 W. Stewart Ave., Wausau.
At 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, the Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble will play a mix of traditional music and holiday classics. Under the direction of Patrick Phalen, the Concert Band will feature Wolfgang Mozart's "Greensleeves" and a medley of Christmas songs. In addition to classic swing and funk tunes, the Jazz Ensemble will perform several toe-tapping holiday songs.
The Winter Choral Concert will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, with a mix of traditional choral and jazz holiday classics under the direction of Timothy Buchholz, associate professor of music. Audience members will be treated to four performing groups, including the Wausau Concert Choir and the Vocal Jazz Ensemble from the Stevens Point campus. Musical highlights will feature a rendition of "Let There Be Peace on Earth," which includes an audience singalong, and jazz arrangements of "Let It Snow" and "I'll Be Home for Christmas."
Tickets for each concert are $10 for the general public, $7 for seniors (62+) and youth (under 18) and can be purchased at tickets.uwsp.edu. UW-Stevens Point students may attend for free with their student ID.
