A new restaurant is now open in the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point at Marshfield campus, serving lunch to both students and community members.
Baka Chicken is located in the campus dining area, serving from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily, Monday through Thursday. The restaurant will offer rice bowls, such as teriyaki chicken, ginger chicken, tofu and more.
Previously the business ran out of a food truck run by Junko Schraeder and her business partners, Teruo Jones and his wife. Schraeder, her husband and their three children relocated to Marshfield from Japan six years ago.
The food truck experience prepared them for operating the restaurant space, Schraeder said.
"Many people know sushi and hibachi as Japanese foods. I wanted to introduce more casual yet healthy, balanced Japanese foods. Especially busy students need good, nutritious foods."
"The UWSP at Marshfield campus is the perfect solution to their expansion goals, as they can now offer a permanent site for their customer base looking for lunch during the week," said Michelle Boernke, campus executive.
"The campus is excited to have Baka Chicken on our campus to serve not only the students and staff, but the community as well," Boernke said. "It offers Marshfield authentic Japanese cuisine as a new healthy food option."
Customers may park in the south parking lot by the Marauder statue, enter the main doors of the physical education building then go straight ahead to the Commons to find Baka Chicken.
