A craftsman of wooden boats will work with students and faculty at the
University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point next week, as well as give public
demonstrations of his work.
Tim Lee, a visiting artist from
Port Townsend, Wash., will give a free, public lecture on Monday, April 21, at
5:30 p.m. in Room 285 of the Noel Fine Arts Center, 1800 Portage Street. He
will also give a free, public demonstration on Wednesday, April 23, at 6 p.m.
in Room 197 of the Noel Fine Arts Center.
Lee will work with Department of
Art and Design students and faculty all week in both the wood and glass studios
to demonstrate an organic approach to woodworking. His visit is presented by
SCULPT, a student sculpture organization.
Lee is a nationally recognized,
award-winning instructor and consultant in wooden boatbuilding construction.
Since graduating from the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding in 1990, he
has worked in boat yards in Alaska and Washington. He recently helped set up a
wooden boatbuilding school in Ireland and has taught at the Penland School of
Crafts, Traditional Small Craft Association conferences, Seattle’s Center for
Wooden Boats, Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival and Whidbey Island Historical
Society.
