Acclaimed jazz trumpeter Scotty Barnhart will give a free public performance at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Monday, September 17.
Held at 7:30 p.m. in the Noel Fine Arts Center’s Michelsen Hall, the concert will also feature UW-Stevens Point music faculty members Matthew Buchman on piano, David Story on bass and Ryan Korb on drums. The UW-Stevens Point Jazz Society is presenting the event, the culmination of Barnhart’s work with university jazz students earlier in the day.
Barnhart is celebrating his twentieth year as a featured soloist with the legendary Count Basie Orchestra and has recorded with famed musical names such as Tony Bennett, Diana Krall, Ray Charles and Tito Puente. An authority on the history of the jazz trumpet, he recently authored and released a book, “The World of Jazz Trumpet – A Comprehensive History and Practical Philosophy.”
Soon after leaving Stevens Point, Barnhart will head to Australia to perform in a worldwide tour with the Count Basie Orchestra from October through May 2013. For more information about Barnhart and his work, visit www.scottybarnhart.com.
