Winter brings new things to discover at the University
of Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s Schmeeckle Reserve. Several free, public programs
are offered in December.
Taught by UW-Stevens Point students, the programs are
offered at the reserve’s Visitor Center, 2419 North Point Drive, Stevens Point.

Wisconsin’s Green Gold, Tuesday, Dec. 2,
7-8 p.m. Discover wild rice and how harvesting techniques have persevered from
traditions of early native tribes.

Lake Joanis Jellies, Saturday, Dec. 6,
2:30-3:30 p.m. Learn about the freshwater jellyfish found beneath the surface
of the reserve’s lake.

Warriors of Winter, Sunday, Dec. 7, 2-3
p.m. Find out how animals of the reserve prepare for the challenges of a long
winter season. Dress for the weather.

Forest Tricksters, Thursday, Dec. 11, 7-8
p.m. Discover how the elusive red and gray foxes of Schmeeckle Reserve keep a low
profile and sneak about during the day.
