What makes some animals and plants glow? How is an
insect a superhero? What kinds of mammals live in the water? Discover the
answers to these questions and more at University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s
Schmeeckle Reserve this March.
Several free, public programs will be taught by
UW-Stevens Point students at the reserve’s Visitor Center, 2419 North Point

6-7 p.m. Discover the birds that sing in the reserve in the winter and how
these birds adapt to harsh weather.

Tales from Nature’s Pharmacy, Thursday,
March 10, 6-7 p.m. Learn the health benefits of several common plants and
stories about their medicinal uses.

Things that Glow in Nature, Friday, March
11, 5-6 p.m. What makes mushrooms glow in the dark or fireflies light up the
sky? Find out about these and other creatures and plants that glow naturally.

Aquatic Mammal Mystery, Tuesday, March
15, 6-7 p.m. How are beavers, muskrats and otters -- all aquatic mammals --
different, and how are they the same?

Rhythm of the Seasons, Thursday, March
17, 6-7 p.m. Enjoy an upbeat campfire activity and find your rhythm as winter
turns into spring.

Mad about Mosquitoes, Friday, March 18,

Birds of Prey Don’t Play All Day, Thursday,
March 31, 6-7 p.m. From owls to hawks, the raptors of Schmeeckle Reserve have
many different survival behaviors.
