Bringing local audiences entertainment from around the nation and the world, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Performing Arts Series will include three music groups, a dance company and comedy troupe during the 2012-13 season.
Each performance will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Theater @1800 at Sentry Headquarters.The series is presented in part by Country Inn and Suites of Stevens Point and Sentry Insurance.
Tickets for each show are $15 for adults, $12 for senior citizens and $6 for youth. UW-Stevens Point students with ID may buy tickets in advance for $4.50 or be admitted free the day of the show if seats remain. Rusted Root, Thurs., Sept. 27
Known for a unique fusion of acoustic, rock, world and other music styles, Rusted Root uses a strong percussion section that draws from African, Latin American, Native American and Indian influences. The band was formed in 1990 in Pittsburgh, Pa., and has a platinum record.
Maria Schneider Orchestra, Thurs., Nov. 1
The music of Maria Schneider has been hailed by critics as “evocative, majestic, magical, heart-stoppingly gorgeous and beyond categorization.” She and her orchestra released a first recording in 1994 and have performed at festivals and concert halls worldwide. She has worked with more than 85 groups from more than 30 countries.
Moscow Boys Choir – Christmas Around the World, Wed., Dec. 5
Founded in 1957, the Moscow Boys Choir is among Russia’s most prestigious all-boy choirs and has an international reputation for excellence. A careful blending of soprano voices with bass, tenor and baritone brings a distinct Russian flavor to the choral experience.
Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago, Wed., Feb. 27, 2013
Known for their high-energy, high-impact artistry, the Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago expands the boundaries of jazz dance and has received critical and audience acclaim worldwide. Formed in 1963, the group strives to develop and preserve the indigenous American art form of jazz dance as a true artistic expression of American life.

Conceived by one of the creators of the long-running New York hit, “Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding,” the show includes original songs, sketch comedy and pop parodies. It has been presented off-Broadway and has won the Spotlight Award for Ensemble Entertainer of the Year.
