Poet, short story writer, novelist, and performer Sherman
Alexie will give a presentation in Stevens
Point next month as part of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s
Performing Arts Series.
Alexie
will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, at Sentry Insurance’s
Theatre @1800, 1800 Northpoint Drive, Stevens Point. The series is presented in
part by Country Inn and Suites of Stevens Point and Sentry Insurance.
Tickets
are $15 for adults, $12 for senior citizens and $6 for youth. UW-Stevens Point
students with ID may buy tickets in advance for $4.50 or be admitted free the
day of the show if seats remain. Tickets may be purchased through the

Alexie is known for his
writing of the first all-Indian film, “Smoke Signals,” which he also
co-produced. It won the Audience Award and Filmmakers Trophy at the 1998
Sundance Film Festival.
He has written 24 books,
including, most recently, “War Dances,” a collection of stories and poems from
Grove Press, and “Face,” a book of poetry from Hanging Loose Press. He is the
winner of the 2010 PEN/Faulkner Award, 2007 National Book Award for Young People’s
Literature and 2001 PEN/Malamud Award for Excellence in the Short Story. He
received a Special Citation for the 1994 PEN/Hemingway Award for Best First
Fiction.
A Spokane/Coeur d’Alene
Indian, he grew up in Wellpinit, Wash., on the Spokane Indian Reservation. He
lives in Seattle with his family.
