The
many languages of love will be heard in a voice recital offered at the
University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
Baritone
Matthew Markham, assistant professor of music, will perform at 7:30 p.m. in
Lecture Hall 221 of the Noel Fine Arts Center, accompanied by guest artist
Kristin Ditlow, piano, and adjunct faculty member Rosalie Gilbert, harp.
The
recital will include love songs in English, Czech, German, French, Italian and
Welsh. These works are by British composer Roger Quilter, Czech composer Petr
Eben, French composer Francis Poulenc and American composers Virgil Thomson,
William Bolcom and Marc Blitzstein.
Markham
has taught voice at UW-Stevens since 2012. He has taught and performed with the
Ameropa Solo and Chamber Music Festival in Prague, Czech Republic, and the
Metropolitan International Music Festival in New York City. He released his
first international recording in 2011 and made his debut at Weill Recital Hall
at Carnegie Hall in 2013.
Ditlow,
a faculty member at the University of New Mexico, will be in residence at
UW-Stevens Point, teaching masterclasses and assisting with auditions for the
UW-Stevens Point Opera Workshop’s spring production of Mozart’s “The Magic
Flute.” She will return to campus in April 2016 for the production, which
Markham will direct.
The Nov.
3 concert is part of the Music Department Scholarship Series. Tickets are $8.25
for adults, $5.25 for senior citizens, $4.25 for students and free the day of
the concert for students with a UW-Stevens Point I.D. Tickets are available at
