Whiting to share stories of aid in Afghanistan at UW-Stevens Point

A young man who created an organization to help people living in Afghanistan will give a presentation at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Thursday, April 12.

Luther Whiting will present “Journey of a Dream” at 7 p.m. in the Theater at the Dreyfus University Center, 1015 Reserve St., sharing photos, video and stories from his seven trips to the war-torn country. Sponsored by the Diversity and College Access Office and the Movement student organization, the talk is open to the public, free of charge.

Whiting visited Afghanistan with his parents on a humanitarian trip when he was 19 years old. Instead of what he envisioned—bombs, danger and desolation—Luther found a country with stunning geography, beautiful people and a fascinating culture, he says. He also found a country with tremendous needs.

After returning to the U.S., he developed Noshoq Inc., an aid organization, named after Afghanistan’s highest mountain, which hopes to create sustainable projects to empower Afghanistan’s people and communities through development of agriculture, infrastructure and small business.  For more information, visit www.noshaq.org.
