Biologist,
activist and author Julia Serano will use humor and thoughtfulness to interpret
gender roles during a talk Thursday, March 3.
Her
presentation, “I’ll See It When I Believe It: On Perception and Gender
Entitlement,”
begins at 5 p.m. in the Dreyfus University Center Theater, 1015
Reserve St. It is free and open to the public. A question-answer will follow.
Serano
draws on personal experiences, having been viewed both as female and male as
well as queer and straight at different points in her life, to highlight how
unconscious assumptions and expectations shape how we view other people.
She
wrote “Whipping Girl: A Transsexual Woman on Sexism and the
Scapegoating of Femininity”
and “Excluded:
Making Feminist and Queer Movements More Inclusive,” which
will be available for sale.
