John Raymond, who won the 2015 Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Award from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, will be on campus Oct. 5-6, sponsored by the UW-Stevens Point Jazz Society student organization. He will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, in Michelsen Hall of the Noel Fine Arts Center, joined by the UW-Stevens Point Jazz Ensemble, Professor Mathew Buchman on piano, Professor David Hastings on saxophone, Lecturer Ryan Korb on drums and Associate Professor Dave Story on bass.
The concert will include several of Raymond's compositions, including "Where We Grew Up," "Onward" and "En Route" as well as an arrangement of Kenny Wheeler's "Mark Time," "Transit" by Darcey James Argue and Duke Ellington's "Portrait of Louis Armstrong" from his "New Orleans Suite."
Concert tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for senior citizens, $5 for UW-Stevens Point students, faculty and youth and free the day of the concert for students with a UW-Stevens Point I.D. if not sold out.
