Jazz music with blues, swing, Latin and rock influences will be performed in concert at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point next week.
The Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, at Michelsen Hall of the Noel Fine Arts Center, 1800 Portage St., Stevens Point. The ensemble is directed by Mathew Buchman, professor and director of Jazz Studies, and the band is directed by Myles Boothroyd, assistant professor of saxophone.
The Jazz Band will perform "Tuning Up" by Toshiko Akiyoshi, "The Time is Now" by Eliane Elias, "Dance You Monster to My Soft Song" by Maria Schneider and "Hoe Down" by Oliver Nelson.
The Jazz Ensemble will perform "Ceol" by Ellen Rowe, "Cotton Tail" by Duke Ellington, "North Shore Morning" by Matt Harris, and "Fever, arranged by John Clayton and featuring vocalist Lexie Lakmann. Boothroyd will perform on saxophone for "The Nearness of You" arranged by Clayton and "The Perils of Poda" by Phil Woods.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for UW-Stevens Point students, faculty and youth, and free the day of the concert for students with a UW-Stevens Point ID if not sold out.
