Go around the world with the Pointer community next week as the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point celebrates a travel-themed Homecoming.
"Pointers Go Global" offers activities for community members as well as students and alumni.
"Homecoming is the perfect opportunity for alumni and community members to come to campus and reconnect with their Pointer family and friends," said Laura Gehrman Rottier, director of Alumni Affairs.
Tuesday, Oct. 11, is Spirit Day. Wear Pointer apparel to show Pointer pride.
Several student events will be held throughout the week, including cupcake decorating, games from around the world, student organization activities and a Casino Night. More information is at www.uwsp.edu/centers/campusactivities.
The following events are open to the public.
On Friday, Oct. 14, comedian Alex Stone will perform at 8 p.m. in the Laird Room of the Dreyfus University Center. Tickets are $5 for the public and free for UW-Stevens Point students with I.D.
Several alumni groups will hold gatherings on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 14-15, including Greek organizations, men's rugby, tennis, interior architecture, the Alumni Marching Band and cheer team. See the website for details.
Events on Saturday, Oct. 15, begin at 10 a.m. with coffee and donuts with alumni and friends at Quandt Lobby, sponsored by The Coffee Studio and Emy J's. The Homecoming parade also begins at 10 a.m., following a route that begins on Isadore Street and goes down Fourth Avenue.
A community and campus picnic will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the field outside of DeBot Dining Center on campus. The cost is $5 per person. The picnic features inflatable games and student competitions.
The Homecoming football game begins at 1 p.m. at Goerke Field on Minnesota Avenue. The Pointers will take on the UW-Oshkosh Titans. For tickets, call 715-346-4100.
The 2016 Alumni Awards Banquet will be held Saturday evening at 5 p.m., honoring four Distinguished Alumni and the Trailblazer, Mary Ann Nigbor Volunteer of the Year and Lifetime Achievement Award winners. The Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony will also be held on Saturday at 5 p.m.
