Associate dean and six alumni appointed to governor’s council
Randy Champeau, associate dean for academic affairs in the College of Natural Resources at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, has been reappointed by Gov. Scott Walker to the Wisconsin Council on Forestry.
Champeau will serve as the conservation education representative. He received his doctorate in environmental/conservation education from Michigan State University and has been at UW-Stevens Point since 1983.
In addition to Champeau, the Governor’s Council includes five UW-Stevens Point alumni including Paul DeLong, James Hoppe, James Kerkman, Jane Severt, and Kimberly Quast.
DeLong, a 1985 alumnus, is a state forester who has worked in DNR forestry for 19 years. He received the Conservation Leadership Award from the Nature Conservancy in 2010.
Hoppe, a 1986 alumnus, will continue to serve as the paper and pulp industry representative and comes to the council with more than 20 years of forestry experience.
Kerkman, a 1982 alumnus, was appointed as the Society of American Foresters representative and has served as a forester in the U.S. Army since 1985.
Severt, a 1999 alumna, will continue to serve as the county forests representative. She has over 15 years of experience with county forestry and is a member of the Society of American Foresters.
Quast, a 2001 alumna, will continue to serve as the forestry consulting representative. She received the Michael W. King Field Forester of the Year award in 2010.
