Nationally
renowned oil painter David Anthony Hummer of Wausau will bring his artistry to
the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point next week with two demonstrations and
a lecture on what it means to be an artist.
Hummer
will offer oil painting demonstrations from 1:30 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov.
18, in Room 122 of the Noel Fine Arts Center and from 1:30 to 5 p.m. on
Thursday, Nov. 19, in Room 123.
His
public lecture, “The Idiot,” will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20, in Room
221 of the Noel Fine Arts Center. The talk is based on the book “The Idiot” by
19th century Russian author Fyodor Dostoyevsky and how students of
art should “embrace the idiot within” to lead a fulfilling life.
All
events are open to the public free of charge.
Three
of Hummer’s paintings will be on display in the Noel Fine Arts Center cases on
the second floor, facing the courtyard, and will come down after his lecture on
Nov. 20.
Hummer
operates The Bauhaus studio in downtown Wausau, offering oil painting and
drawing workshops for beginning, intermediate and advanced artists. His visit
is sponsored by the Carlsten Gallery Student Advisory Committee and the Student
Art League.
