‘Danstage 2012’ sneak preview to feature guest choreographer
Audiences may attend a free sneak peek of May’s annual “Danstage” production at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Thursday, Feb. 23.
The public is invited to preview “Triptych,” one of the dance pieces that will be included in “Danstage 2012” on May 4–6 and 9–11. The preview will be offered at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the Dance Studio, Room 130, at the Noel Fine Arts Center, 1800 Portage St.
“Triptych” is the work of Luc Vanier, a guest choreographer and an associate professor of dance at Milwaukee’s Peck School of the Arts, who has been working with UW-Stevens Point students for the past few weeks. Vanier’s many accomplishments include dancing and choreography for the Ohio Ballet, earning a master’s degree at the University of Illinois, becoming a certified Alexander Technique instructor and recently publishing a book, “Dance and the Alexander Technique: Exploring the Missing Link.”
Eleven students will perform “Triptych” and will continue to work on the piece through the spring semester to prepare it for its final showcase at “Danstage 2012.” Tickets for the May 4–6 and 9–11 performances are now on sale through UW-Stevens Point’s Information and Ticket Office, 715-346-4100 or at http://tickets.uwsp.edu.
