MEDIA ADVISORY: The Cupboard grand opening and open house, Oct. 6
What:
The Cupboard, a food pantry for UW-Stevens Point students who need emergency or supplemental food, will hold a grand opening, ribbon cutting and open house on Thursday. Refreshments will be served.
“The Cupboard was created to help students meet their basic needs so that they can focus on succeeding in school,” says organizer Shannon Williams of the Student Employment and Involvement Office. “Thousands of students receive need-based financial aid and hundreds are enrolled in food assistance and WIC programs. Many more students encounter short-term financial emergencies and find themselves choosing between buying food and paying other bills.”
The Cupboard is staffed by student volunteers and a committee that organizes food drives, raises awareness and recruits others to help. For more information, go to www.uwsp.edu/centers/sieo.
