The public is invited to an open house of The Cupboard, a student-run food pantry at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, on Friday, Oct. 5.
The event marks the first anniversary of the The Cupboard, which has served 194 student clients 549 times and had 13 student volunteers work 323 volunteer hours. Sponsored by the UW-Stevens Point Student Involvement and Employment Office (SIEO), the open house takes place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and begins with a brief introduction to The Cupboard’s operations by coordinator Liz Wescott, a psychology major from Stevens Point. Refreshments will be served and copies of The Cupboard’s annual report will be available.
“This event serves as a thank you to our community for their help as well as a way to raise awareness for The Cupboard, the stories coming out of it and the reasons it is so important to continue this project,” Wescott said.
The Cupboard is sponsored by the Students Engaging in Rewarding Volunteer Experiences (SERVE), which is a branch of SIEO. For more information, contact Wescott at 715-346-2260 or sieovol@uwsp.edu.
