Student publishing company asking for book-length manuscripts

A student-run publishing company at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is requesting book-length manuscripts for its next project.

Cornerstone Press, staffed by students enrolled in UW-Stevens Point’s upper-level Editing and Publishing course, will publish one or more books next spring. Eligible manuscripts may be in the genres of non-fiction, fiction, poetry, children’s literature, graphic novel or artist’s book. The deadline for submissions is January 15, 2012.

Students will be responsible for selecting the manuscript, editing, designing, printing, binding, marketing and selling roughly 1,000 copies of the finished work(s). They also pay the author standard royalties on all copies sold.

An additional goal of Cornerstone Press is to actively assist its authors in realizing further opportunities, including seeking representation of its titles and authors to other book publishers for a second printing if the book sells well.

Cornerstone Press has published 30 books to date, including the first edition of “Wildflowers of Wisconsin and the Upper Midwest” (the second edition was published by the University of Wisconsin Press) and “Influences: How Ancient Hinduism Dramatically Changed Early Christianity” (an edition of which was published in India in 2009). The most recent publication to emerge from Cornerstone Press is “Whipped, Not Beaten,” a novel written by UW-Stevens Point alumna Melissa Westemeier.
