Trip offers cooking and culture in the south of France
Experience the culinary and cultural wonders of southern France through a trip offered by the Continuing Education program at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
“Cooking and Culture in Provence” will be offered May 17 through May 27 and led by Kim O’Flaherty, an experienced traveler who has led four trips to Provence, France, and teaches a course on studying abroad. The trip includes cooking classes at four different culinary schools, visits to outdoor markets, wine tastings, city tours, excursions and free time for shopping and exploration.
“The south of France is the epitome of good taste,” said O’Flaherty. “Provençal kitchens combine simplicity with bounty and are famous for aromatic herbs, local fish and game, olive oil and sunshine. Gardens full of fruit trees, overflowing vegetable baskets and vines heavy with grapes provide a rich taste for our palates and an abundant feast for our eyes.”
Destinations will include Aix-en-Provence, Camargue, Arles, Mt Sainte Victoire, Avignon, Chateauneuf du Pape, Côte d'Azur, Monaco, Nice and the southern Luberon region. Lodging is at the Hotel Aquabella in Aix-en-Provence.
The trip costs approximately $3,420, double occupancy, and includes all lodging, breakfasts, three dinners, airport transfers, four cooking classes, daily excursions, guide fees and entrance fees. Single occupancy is approximately an additional $630. Participants will make their own flight arrangements and meet at the Marseille Airport. A non-refundable deposit of $200 is required with registration. A $100 late registration fee incurs after March 1.
