Composers Concert features student works
A free concert of student compositions will be performed at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Monday, April 2.
The Composers Concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Michelsen Hall at the Noel Fine Arts Center. The event is open to the public.
The work of four students will be featured. Compositions for piano include Sebastian Petak’s “The Book of Sin: Wrath,” Michael Bembenek, Jr.’s “Personnages, after Miró” and “Coyolxauhqui,” and Chris McRae’s “Fantasie En Quatre.” A student quintet will perform Alex Shuffield’s “Sinfonietta for Brass Quintet – Poseidon.”
The concert is coordinated by Music Professor Charles Rochester Young, coordinator of musicianship and director of the Computer Music Center at UW-Stevens Point. A composer himself, Young has had works performed on five continents, in all 50 states and in major halls of the U.S. and Europe, including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. His works are also widely published and recorded.
