UW System Regent Bradley to address UW-Stevens Point winter graduates

University of Wisconsin System Regent Mark Bradley of Wausau will address fall semester graduates and their guests as the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point holds its winter commencement ceremonies on Saturday, Dec. 17.

Bradley will speak to 594 graduates, ages 20–58, in the Quandt Fieldhouse in two ceremonies. The 10 a.m. ceremony will include associates, bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the College of Letters and Science and College of Natural Resources. A 1 p.m. ceremony will include bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the College of Professional Studies and College of Fine Arts & Communication.

The commencement program will open with the presentation of flags by the UWSP ROTC color guard. The national anthem will be sung by Shelly Bitner, a senior music education major from Wausau, and Alyson Barrett, a senior voice major from Verona, will sing the alma mater. Presiding over the ceremonies are Chancellor Bernie Patterson, Interim Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Greg Summers and Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Al Thompson. Patterson will give the welcome and charge to the graduates.

Representing the class of 2011, Tealicia Joseph, wildlife ecology major from Crystal Falls, Mich., will speak at the 10 a.m. ceremony, and Benjamin Hedquist, jazz studies performance and applied strings double bass major from Stevens Point, will speak at the 1 p.m. ceremony. Deans from their respective colleges will assist the chancellor in the presentation of diplomas.

Alumnus Ray Oswald of Milwaukee, president of the Alumni Association, will give the charge to alumni. Music will be provided by the UWSP Concert Band and the UWSP Wind Ensemble, both conducted by Brendan Caldwell, assistant professor of music. Professors Eric Anderson and David Hastings will introduce each candidate for graduation.

Bradley has been a member of the Board of Regents since 2003 and has served as its president. An attorney with the Ruder Ware law firm in Wausau, he is the president of the firm and a member of its board of directors. A frequent lecturer on estate planning, he co-authored “Eckhardt’s Workbook for Wisconsin Estate Planners.” He is the past director of the Taxation Section of the State Bar of Wisconsin and past director and chair of its section on Real Property, Probate and Trust Law.

As a regent, he has chaired several committees. He is a member of the National Leadership Council of the American Association of Colleges and Universities and the Marshfield Clinic National Advisory Council. Bradley also serves as a trustee of the B.A. and Esther Greenheck Foundation and as director of the Elwyn J. Remington Foundation and the May Family Foundation. Bradley previously worked for UW System as a budget analyst and as an assistant to the senior vice president. He is a graduate of UW-Madison, and received his law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School. He and his wife, Ann, have lived in Wausau for more than 34 years and have four adult children.
