The first combined choirs concert of the academic year at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will feature several student conductors and a variety of choral pieces.
"A Choral Collage" will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, in Michelsen Hall of the Noel Fine Arts Center.
The Women's Choir, conducted by Catherine Wilson, assistant professor and coordinator of music education, will perform "The Lake Isle of Innisfree" by Eleanor Daley and "Five Hebrew Love Songs" by Eric Whitacre, featuring Michelle Zekinski on violin. "It Was a Lover and His Lass," by John Rutter, will be conducted by music student Kristin Pfluger.
The Chamber Singers, conducted by Vocal Professor Susan Bender, will perform "If Ye Love Me, Keep My Commandments" by Thomas Tallis, "Jesu dulcis memoria" by Tomás Luis de Victoria, "Lida Rose" from "The Music Man" and sung by the men of the group, and "Benedictus" from "Little Organ Mass" by Fran Joseph Haydn. Student Aly Evans will also conduct.
The Concert Choir will perform two pieces from "Trois Chansons" by Maurice Ravel, "Heart Not So Heavy as Mine" by Elliot Carter, "Tango to Evora" by Loreena McKennitt and "Twa Tanbou" by Sydney Guillaume.
The Choral Union will sing "The Cloths of Heaven" by Z. Randall Stroope, "Loveliest of Trees" by James Mullholland and conducted by student Samantha Olsen, "Animal Crackers vol. 2" by Eric Whitacre and "Vamuvamba," a traditional tiriki melody. The evening will close with three choirs joining for "Hope for Resolution" by Paul Caldwell and Sean Ivory, with soprano saxophone by Music Professor David Hastings.
The Concert Choir and Choral Union are conducted by Lucinda Thayer, professor of music and director of choral activities.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for senior citizens, $5 for UW-Stevens Point students, faculty and staff members and youth. Tickets are free the day of the concert for students with a UW-Stevens Point I.D. if not sold out.
