Campus Band and Wind Symphony Band to perform together Oct. 16

Two University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point ensembles, the Campus Band and Wind Symphony, will join in concert on Wednesday, Oct. 16.

The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Michelsen Hall in the Noel Fine Arts Center, 1800 Portage St., Stevens Point.  

The Campus Band will feature student apprentice conductor Bryan Cyr for "Appalachian Air" by Nathan Daughtrey. The band will also perform "The Jolly Earl of Cholmondeley" from "Three Ayers from Gloucester" by Hugh Stuart, "Air for Band" by Frank Erickson, "Old Churches" by Michael Colgrass and "Reverberations" by Brian Balmages. The band is directed by Patrick Lawrence, associate professor of low brass and music education.

The Wind Symphony Band will perform the university's consortium premiere of Andrew David Perkins' "Until the Night Collapses," a new work written in response to the shootings at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in 2018. They will also perform a traditional song from Puerto Rico, "Seis Manuel" by Shelley Hanson, Nicole Piunno's "Postcard from Sequoia" and Malcolm Arnold's classic, "Prelude, Siciliano and Rondo." The band is directed Michael Butler, assistant professor and director of bands.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for UW-Stevens Point students, faculty and youth and free the day of the concert for students with a UW-Stevens Point I.D. if not sold out. Tickets also may be purchased at the door if available. Proceeds benefit student scholarships.
