Observers project that tens of thousands of unmanned aerial vehicles will be in use by the end of the decade. Learn how the rise in popularity of drones will affect life on the ground and in the sky at a free lecture offered by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
"Preparing for the Drone Invasion" will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, presented by Tim Kennedy, assistant professor of geography and geology. Held in the Pinery Room of the Portage Country Public Library, 1001 Main St., Stevens Point, this is the sixth talk in the eight-part College of Letters and Science 2016-2017 Community Lecture Series. The public may attend free of charge.
"Unmanned aerial vehicles have the potential to positively and negatively affect our everyday lives," Kennedy said. "How are drones being incorporated into the National Airspace System and how can we prepare future drone operators to operate safely and ethically?"
Kennedy received his undergraduate degree at Carroll University before earning post-graduate degrees at UW-Stevens Point and UW-Madison. His research interests include geographic information science and systems, remote sensing geospatial modeling, land change modeling, land-use and land-cover classification, human-environment interactions and landscape ecology.
