Community members may notice some extra bustle and shine as the
University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point hosts the UW System Board of Regents this
month.
This governing body of the UW System, along with chancellors and
provosts from System universities and colleges around the state, will meet in
Stevens Point Oct. 9-10.
“Excitement
is building as we prepare,” said Bernie L. Patterson, UW-Stevens Point chancellor.
“Faculty, staff and students have been working diligently to help showcase our
university as we celebrate 120 years of education excellence.”
The
Regents will meet in committees Thursday morning and as a full board that
afternoon and Friday. Meetings are open to the public. The agenda will be
available next week at www.uwsa.edu/bor/meetings.
While
nearly all of the Regents have visited the UW-Stevens Point campus
individually, this is the first time since 2008 the Board has met in Stevens
Point.
“It’s
an opportunity to highlight our campus and community, to feature our students,
faculty and staff, and to demonstrate how UW-Stevens Point is a vital and
energetic part of our community,” Patterson said.
Research
and university partnerships with students and faculty will be on display during
a special “walking” luncheon Thursday. Providing entertainment will be College
of Fine Arts and Communication and international students, Aber Suzuki Center students
and University Child Care and Learning Center children.
The
Board of Regents has 18 members. The governor appoints 16 of them, including
two UW System students who serve two-year terms; and 14 others, who serve
staggered seven-year terms. The state superintendent of public instruction and
a representative of the Wisconsin Technical College System Board are also on
the board.
The Board of Regents appoints the UW System president and chancellors of the 13
four-year universities. It oversees the entire UW System, which also includes
13 two-year UW Colleges and statewide UW-Extension.
